The Cultural Center «Agios Ioannis Lampadistis» in Kalopanayiotis paid tribute to MJ Elia

The Cultural Center «Agios Ioannis Lampadistis» in Kalopanayiotis paid tribute to Marios Joannou Elia, a Cypriot creator with a consistent international presence and a substantial contribution to the development of music and culture both within and beyond national borders.

The event was held at the historic residence of Metropolitan Laurentius of Kyrenia – a place of deep historical weight, as it was the home of the hierarch executed together with Archbishop Kyprianos on July 9, 1821.

In her address, the President of the Cultural Center, Mrs. Anthi Kyriakidou, stressed: «We show our respect and appreciation to those who create culture, who write history – in this country called Greece, called Cyprus.

We survive on this much-suffering island», she noted, «thanks to its centuries-old history and its culture, which no one, absolutely no one, can erase». She further emphasized that this event represents one of the most significant moments in the 35-year history of the Center, «as we host a distinguished Cypriot creator whose fame has surpassed the borders of his homeland – the composer and director of artistic and cultural institutions, Marios Joannou Elia.

His presence in Kalopanayiotis, she added, «reflects not only the artist, but also the man».

The honored artist delivered a speech entitled «Memory as Creation – Universal Meanings from Displacement to Resurrection», highlighting the power of art to transform collective and personal memory into creative experience.

At the conclusion of the event, Mrs. Kyriakidou stated: «It was the best we have ever experienced in this hall. We feel deeply honored to present not an award – we do not consider ourselves worthy of that – but a simple honorary plaque, as a sign of gratitude and a keepsake from our community. So that he may also remember this event in the cities of the world where he travels. Who knows… perhaps it may even inspire him».

The honorary plaque was presented by the Mayor of Kalopanayiotis, Mr. Lambros Lambrou, while the President of the Cultural Center offered Marios Joannou Elia publications of cultural significance.

The event gathered a large audience, confirming the respect and appreciation for the person and work of the honoree, and marked a special moment in the cultural life of the Kalopanayiotis community.
